Working with Danielle as an engineering lead has been great! Her communication early on in projects and attention to detail saved our engineers so much time. She collaborated with us to find creative solutions and workarounds when there were technical challenges. Implementation always went smoothly with Danielle around, and her optimism is contagious!

Sarah Williams

Principal Design Director - Microsoft

I am writing to recommend Danielle Hibbs as a Senior UX Designer.  I have known Danielle since October 2021 as a Senior UX designer for visualstudio.microsoft.com.

I have always known Danielle to be dedicated, thoughtful and thorough in her design process. She thinks deeply about how things work and the desired user flow of a given scenario. She is adept at communication and tracking of projects and requirements. During the time I managed Danielle, I was able to rely wholly on Danielle to take an end- to-end approach to design and working with partners in PM, Marketing, Research and Engineering. Danielle managed and drove to completion multiple long-term projects over her time on the team, as well as created guidance and system controls to provide team with assets to complete tasks without her.

Based on our experience together, I can confidently recommend Danielle for a position as a Senior UX Designer, and Design Manager.

Corbin Schroeder

Magic: The Gathering Graphic Designer

Former ORC Employee

Danielle has been the manager of the ORC team for as long and longer than I can recall, to put this into some perspective I have been contracting with Wizards since January.  There simply are not enough praises to be sung about her, what she has done for us, and Wizards of the Coast.

Over the course of my professional career I have had several different managers, all with different managerial styles and philosophies.  I say this not as idle flattery or exaggeration, Danielle is without question the most competent, capable, and well-rounded manger I have had the pleasure to work with.  She genuinely cares for not only the wellbeing of her team, but the wellbeing of each of her team members, a quality I have found severely lacking in several of my past employment experiences.

As I understand it, the ORC team used to a bit chaotic, with a number of rotating faces and no firm place in the greater Wizards culture.  Now, however, the ORCs not only have standing relationships with different Art Directors and Designers, it has become a position that people can make a consistent living at and feel as though they are part of a much larger community.  None of this would have been possible if not for Danielle’s studios efforts to integrate her team into the company’s workflow.

The team that she currently oversees all came from different backgrounds, with different levels of experience, and areas of expertise.  In my experience it is not often that a team function smoothly, produce good work, and have all personalities jive with one another.  Danielle managed to pull it off.  She cobbled together a group of rag tag designers from various walks of life, into perhaps the finest team I have been a part of.  All members produce work that I respect, and whats more, I can consider all of them friends.

I mentioned before that Danielle genuinely cares for the wellbeing of each of her team members.  A quality most desirable in any branch of management.  If there was ever a period where my work load was lacking, or I had concerns, Danielle was the first person I could go to for answers.  She was someone that we can all count on to go to bat for us, and put our needs before her own, even if it meant giving us some of the projects she was working on so that we might hit our desired hours.

Having spent a great deal of time overseeing the ORCs, and assigning projects in Erin’s absence, her experience is unmatched.  I cannot recommend her enough for this position, there is no question in my mind that she is the right person and will exceed all expectations.

Jeff Carpenter

Transformers & Magic: The Gathering Graphic Designer

Former ORC Employee

I’ve been with the ORC design team within CAPS since February of 2017, and for the majority of that time Danielle Cawkill has been my supervisor. Since being called on to lead the team directly, the results of her work have been remarkable. She took a group of individual freelancers who worked offsite with little visibility into the organization and, in an amazingly short amount of time, made us an integral part of the CAPS Team. She was behind making smart new hires and created a working environment for us that didn’t exist before. I went from feeling confused about the status of my projects to having an advocate I could turn to, and she turned piecemeal assignments into a real step in my career path.

So, when Danielle made me aware that she would be seeking a position with even more management duties, and I wanted to wholeheartedly recommend her. She has created new standards and practices that have made our work much more efficient. She also increased the level of transparency between us and our “clients” on the team. We are also now routinely present in the office in a way that felt discouraged before. The result has allowed us to take on a higher volume of work, do work of higher quality, and to really feel like a part of the team here in a way that we weren’t able to before. The results speak for themselves, and I can tell you that the morale of the ORC team has increased along with our level of responsibility.

Danielle would be an excellent candidate for more management duties. I’m confident she can take what she’s done with the ORC team and continue to apply it at a higher level. She has always been attentive, candid, and an excellent advocate for the people she manages. I know this will continue to be a strength for her in any capacity with Wizards.

Tara Warburton-Schwaber

Graphic Designer
Former ORC Employee

I am a graphic designer who is part of the ORC team and have been working with Danielle since February as my manager. She has been one of the best managers I have ever had.  I really appreciate how approachable she is and how open her communication is.

During the latest re-organization at WOTC, she has been kept us all up to date on how the changes affect us, and how to keep moving forward.  Without her leadership, the transition would have been much rockier.  Additionally, she is fair in how she divides up the work among the ORC Graphic Designers.

It’s been awesome working with Danielle and I heartily recommend her for this managerial role.   I think she would be a great asset to the team.

Bob Jordan

Magic: The Gathering Principal Designer

I have worked closely with Danielle Cawkill in the CAPs Design department for almost two years now. Danielle was hired to manage our outsource (ORC) Graphic Design team. Over the past two years she has expanded her management role to include Graphic Design as well. It is not easy to have a hybrid role, since both directions require equal focus and effort. Danielle took on these extra graphic design tasks in order to steep herself in the WotC way of doing things, which in turn informed and strengthened her management training and scheduling methodologies. Over time (even though she has a lot of artistic talent to work with) I’ve seen a gravitation towards the management side of the spectrum. Danielle is a very nurturing and caring person who has a lot of creative experience and knowledge, which is a great combination for a management role that oversees creative talent. I have seen her take great care of the ORC team, and she played a big role in integrating them into our department as respected team members who we all rely on. I believe Danielle would embrace the role as Manager of our team, and grow into it gracefully over time. I highly recommend Danielle.
